As far as anyone is concerned they're still part of the former United Kingdom, at least officially. They don't make the news nearly as often--which is understandable I suppose.

Relations with Wales tend to overshadow everything else these days. I suppose you could describe England's current relationship with them as "wary," but tensions between the two countries have always run a bit high.
